Project Details

This project was a new-build country house where the roof covering was of major interest to local planners who requested that the property /roof should blend with the existing country environment.

The existing property was demolished and a new property built on this plot in Tunbridge Wells.

The original peg tiles were salvaged and used on the pitched roof of the new property with Sussex-based company Aldershaw supplying the hand-made fittings which gave the roof an immediate vintage look. Peg tile splits were used on the verges.

The actual roof structure itself is unremarkable but consistent with rural farm houses in the area. Typically in Sussex/Kent the main roof is highlighted by using red clay vertical tiles.

You will note form the enclosed photos the accuracy of the cutting to the mitres and the clean bedded areas of verges, ridge and bonnet tiles.

To us it shows that our tillers and apprentices take great pride in their work and have produced an outstanding result for the client and home owner alike. This is also something rarely seen in new build projects these days and as a company we try and instil that ethos from the moment they join our company.
